Kano Ward exco suspends APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje
Members of the Ganduje Ward in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State have suspended Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Haruna Gwanjo, the Executive Council of Ganduje Ward's leader, said this on Monday at a news conference in Kano.
According to Gwanjo, the former governor needs to dispel any accusations of wrongdoing related to his ongoing dollar lawsuit.
A man claiming to be a contractor allegedly gave Ganduje bundles of dollar bills as a bribe, and Ganduje allegedly put them in the pockets of his flowing gown. This incident was caught on camera and went viral.
When the video originally came to light, Ganduje defended his innocence and rejected its contents. However, years later, the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) government of Governor Abba Yusuf reopened the matter and vowed to bring charges against the former governor.
On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Ganduje will be arraigned by the Kano High Court on accusations pertaining to alleged bribery, diversion, and mismanagement of money, including the alleged acceptance of bribes totaling N1.38 billion and $413,000.
Haruna Dederi, the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General for Kano State, had said that Ganduje, his spouse, and six other people will be charged.
