Kanu's fate will be decided in Court- says President Buhari to Igbo leaders
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday told Southeast leaders that the court would decide the fate of pro-separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu.
He made the statement during a meeting with leaders from the region at the new government building in Abakaliki, the state's capital.
Buhari is in Ebonyi for a two-day working visit.
The president was responding to a call from regional leaders, who begged him to release Kanu and other Igbo youths being held across the country. They said they are in dialogue with dissident groups in the region to bring them to a round table discussion on a return to peace.
However, Buhari said he believes Kanu's case should be properly decided in court.
He expressed concern about the deteriorating security situation in the region. He also said some people in the area had brainwashed and incited many.
