Kanye West sued for $7 million due to unpaid project

An events production company, Phantom Labs, is suing rapper Kanye West for allegedly owing $7 million on a series of jobs they were commissioned since last year, including organizing his cancelled Coachella gig.

According to documents released by Variety magazine, the company claim to be working with West in the fall of 2021 to renovate an industrial facility that the rapper planned to turn into a creative studio. However, he ended up not paying for this project.

"Of the approximately $7,154,177.67 owed, defendants have not paid Phantom a dime, despite repeated requests for payment and the provision of detailed assistance by defendants," the lawsuit reads.

"To the contrary, to the best of our knowledge and belief, since gathering this information, Defendants and their agents have circumvented Phantom and attempted to directly pay certain Phantom suppliers and distributors with whom Defendants wish to work in the future."

Phantom Labs' other commissions, which West was also unable to pay for, included several concerts on his "Sunday Services" series.

The company also organized the Miami event where Kanye announced the release of his latest album Donda 2 in February this year and for which they are asking $2.2 million.

In addition, the plaintiffs are also seeking more than $1 million, which they were required to pay when West pulled out of the Coachella music festival before it was due to begin.

According to the lawsuit, West's representatives agreed to pay Phantom Labs $5 million in return for organizing his Coachella concert.
