Kidnappers abduct journalist in Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation's director of news, Mrs. Priestba Nwokocha, has been kidnapped.

The Station's Director of Administration, Pastor Ebi Ogoloma, first revealed that she had been abducted.

She was kidnapped in Port Harcourt on Friday, July 21, while she was leaving work along Slaughter/YKC road between 7 and 8 o'clock.

According to family members, she called her husband when her car broke down on the Slaughter/YKC road, and he subsequently showed up with a mechanic to fix it.

In full front of her husband and the mechanic, the kidnappers arrived and took her away.

“They just picked her and left; they didn’t pick her husband or hurt him.” One of the family sources confirmed.

Confirming the incident, the PRO of the Rivers state Police Command Grace Iringe-Koko said “The CP has mandated tactical teams to ensure she regain her freedom and reunite with her family members” in a WhatsApp message.

Stanley Job, the chairman, and Ike Wigodo, the secretary, jointly issued a statement condemning the act on behalf of the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists.

While urging security personnel to act quickly to save Mrs. Priestba Nwokocha, they describe the behaviour as inhumane, evil, and callous.
