Kwara govt demotes teacher for assaulting corp member
The teacher accused of mistreating a National Youth Service Corps member (name withheld) assigned to the Government Day Junior Secondary School in Kulende, Ilorin, has been sanctioned by the Kwara State Government.
The government demoted the teacher and moved her out of the school, according to a joint statement released on Wednesday by Mallam Tauheed Abubakar, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, and Hajia Sa'adatu Modibbo-Kawu, the Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development.
According to PUNCH, the teacher at Government Day Secondary School Kulende attacked a female corps member on Thursday for not greeting them.
After reprimanding the female corps member for not properly greeting them, the teacher allegedly undressed her and beat her.
The teacher allegedly attacked the corps member for "not greeting them properly" when she came to the school to pick up her clearance letter.
However, in a statement by the Press Secretary, Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Bola Onile, “The government said the investigative panel set up on the matter found Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike guilty of fighting on duty, use of foul language, insubordination, and disrespect for the national identity, which the uniform of the corps members represents.
“Her behaviour contravenes public service rules, and she has therefore been demoted by two grade levels.
All of the corps members serving in the junior and senior arms of Government Day Secondary School, Kulende Ilorin, were withdrawn by the NYSC management on Monday.
Mr. Oladipo Morakinyo, the NYSC Public Relations Officer for the state, revealed that the corps members serving in the school had been temporarily removed from the premises in order to prevent attacks.
