Kwara youths withdraws from nationwide protest
Kwara State youth associations and groups disassociated themselves from the planned nationwide protest and rally on Friday, stating that the action would not address any issues.
The organisations, under the leadership of Alli Nasiru Yusuf, acknowledged that the economy is not simple in the nation or anywhere else in the universe, but they believed that discussions and interactions may help to improve the situation.
“We have expressed our grievances to the Kwara State Government on issues and challenges bothering the youth constituency and other segments of society in Kwara and Nigeria as a whole.
“We just had a meeting with various groups. Since the government has promised to progressively address some of our grievances, we are saying no protest in Kwara State,” he told reporters in Ilorin shortly after meeting some government officials.
Representatives from various organisations attended the briefing, including the Okada Rider Association of Nigeria (ORANA), the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), the National Association of Students Union (NASU), the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and the Marketers Association of Nigeria (MAN).
High ranking government officials who had previously met with the groups include Ndanusa Sheu Usman, Commissioner for Youth Development; Dr. Abdulwasiu Olayinka Tejidini, General Manager, Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP); and Alhaji Abdulrazaq Alabere, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development.
