La Masia Winger, Alex Collado, plants to leave Barcelona

For the 2020–21 Barcelona season, Alex Collado was given the captain's hat, and the player stepped up and performed admirably. The Spaniard, who was a winger, finished the season with eight goals and three assists.

He was hailed as the upcoming superstar out of La Masia, but it was not to be as Barcelona were packed at both of his favorite positions—right wing and central/attacking midfield.

Last year, Collado spent half of a season on loan with Granada, where he contributed an assist and two goals. His adaptability and professionalism seems to have impressed Xavi, but things have changed today.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Collado has spoken with Xavi and wants to leave the team this summer.

He understands that game time will be scarce with the addition of Raphinha, Franck Kessie, and perhaps Bernardo Silve.

He recently extended his deal with Barcelona through 2024, and while he is driven to win, he won't stay at the team if it means his professional growth is put on hold.

Although there are currently no reliable rumors connecting him to any specific club, it can be assumed that the exit will probably take the form of a loan. Given Xavi's affinity for him, a strong offer might persuade Barça to sell him, but not without a buy-back or first refusal.

One of the few players, Collado excels both in central midfield and on the wing. Others benefit from his ability to cut in, drive on the touchline, and pick out passes.

But it's clear that his choice to leave Barça was the best one for him. Riqui Puig's situation demonstrates that staying too long can be detrimental.

Despite this, it seems unlikely that Collado will be able to secure a spot on a top squad this summer. The best course of action would be to hand the ball over to a team in the higher mid-table, such as Wolfsburg, Valencia, or Celta Vigo.
