Lagos airport resumes operations as Labour halts strike

At the Muritala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, local airlines have recommenced their operations following the statewide strike by Organised Labour on Tuesday over the increased minimum wage and energy bill hike.

Following a temporary deal on the new national minimum wage agreed on Monday night between the Federal Government and the Labour unions, activities were resumed.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) led a meeting at the Federal Government's request, and the resolution passed there resolved to continue daily discussions at the level of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage for the following week, or until a final agreement was reached.

Once the Federal Government pledged to pay over N60,000 as the new minimum wage, the NLC and TUC called off the strike.

The airlines, particularly Ibom, Arik, and Air Peace, are now able to resume operations as a result of the striking aviation unions opening barricaded airport terminals.

The managements of Ibom Air and Air Peace have advised passengers that flight operations will resume.

“We are pleased to inform you that the nationwide strike by the NLC and TUC has been suspended, and our flight operations have now resumed.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused during the disruption and appreciate your patience and understanding,” Air Peace Airlines stated.

Arik Air requested those travellers who were open to rescheduling get in touch with the company.

“Arik Air has announced the immediate resumption of flight operations following the suspension of the national strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
