Lagos closes hotels, poultry over noise, air pollution
In an effort to address issues with noise pollution, air pollution, and other environmental violations in the state, the Lagos State Government has closed a number of businesses in the Ikorodu neighbourhood.
In a statement posted on X.com on Friday, the state's commissioner of environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated that the action was taken in response to a recent extensive enforcement operation that was carried out in several important regions of the state, including Agric, Ibeshe, and Ikorodu.
He underlined that a number of establishments—including hotels, bars, petrol stations, lounges and poultry farms—kept disobeying the orders of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency in spite of earlier warnings.
“As a result, these establishments have been temporarily shut down to ensure compliance with environmental regulations,” he wrote, listing the affected outfits as Victory Hotel, Wendy Bar, Moore Gas Plant, Provider Farm and Poultry, Cloud 24, Little Palace Hotel, City Groove Lounge and Bar, Destiny Castle, and B.S. Gold Warehouse.
He wrote, “LASEPA emphasized the importance of businesses complying with environmental standards, reiterating its commitment to fostering a sustainable and harmonious environment for Lagos residents.
“With repeated warnings issued to businesses across the state, LASEPA remains resolute in its commitment to rigorously enforcing the State environmental laws, ensuring compliance and achieving a clean and sustainable environment befitting Lagos State’s status as the nation’s Center of Excellence.”
