Due to claimed extortion by law enforcement and transportation regulatory agencies, commercial bus drivers operating in Lagos' Iyana-Ipaja/Iyana-Iba axis have gone on strike, leaving commuters stranded.

The drivers were protesting alleged persistent extortion by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the police, and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), also known as agbero.

Speaking to Vanguard, a few commercial bus drivers bemoaned the situation as intolerable, claiming that the alleged extortion had increased daily.

They claim that LASTMA officers regularly seize their cars and hold them for a full day, robbing the owners and drivers of their daily earnings.

The drivers claimed that the development had made it harder for them to run their businesses profitably, which is why they had to take strike action to voice their complaints.
