Lagos commissioner, Idris Salako, resigns after building collapse

Idris Salako, the Lagos State Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, has resigned.

The declaration was made on Monday by the commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has accepted the resignation, according to Omotoso.

Salako's departure, according to the official, "is a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry and its agencies."

Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude for his assistance and best wishes for his future endeavours.

The governor issued a warning to all participants in the industry to abide by the law or suffer the repercussions of any transgression.

Following several building collapses in Nigeria's commercial centre over the past few years, Salako resigns from his position.

The most recent took place early on Sunday in Oniru. Two people are dead and others have not yet been located after a seven-story skyscraper under construction collapsed.

Speaking to the media, Salako implied that the developer was a strong man by mentioning how he repelled state agents during enforcement.

In an indictment of the state government, he also revealed that the developer had broken the site's seal three times.

Prior to the Ikoyi building collapse in November 2021, which resulted in the deaths of more than 40 people, the identical circumstance existed.

Femi Osibona, a developer who also perished, forced government officials to open the site several times by claiming to have links with the authorities.
