Lagos courts shut down as strike kicks off

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) initiated a nationwide industrial action on Monday morning that has begun to negatively impact the judiciary.

Attorneys and litigants were barred from accessing the Federal High Court located in Ikoyi and the Lagos High Court located at Tafawa Balewa Square.

The strike enforcers politely requested that those who arrived early at the courthouse respect the directive, saying, "We are shutting down the court in strict compliance with JUSUN (Judiciary Union of Nigeria) order."

Every Lagos High court in the Mainland and Island regions, as well as all Magistrates' courts, documented the identical circumstance.

The courts are still closed because JUSUN executives have taken up positions at the entrance to bar people from entering.
