Lagos declares road closures ahead of 2026 Fanti Carnival

In order to prevent disturbances during the vibrant Lagos Fanti Carnival on Monday, the Lagos State Government has announced temporary traffic restrictions in certain areas of Lagos Island.

In order to guarantee a seamless and secure carnival parade, the closures will start at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, according to a statement released on Friday by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

King George V Road at the intersection by Mobil Filling Station, Onikan Roundabout inbound to TBS, Flagstaff House inbound to TBS, Outer Marina by State House inbound to TBS, Campbell St. by the Old Defence Building, and Catholic Mission St. by St. Nicholas Hospital were listed by the ministry as the affected routes.

It stated that the temporary limitation was part of an attempt to give participants and spectators who are anticipated to swarm the Lagos Island corridor for the yearly cultural extravaganza a safe and organized atmosphere.

Along with asking for patience and understanding from other road users, it also recommended drivers and locals to plan their movements appropriately and choose alternate routes during this time.

The ministry claims that in order to facilitate vehicle movement and lessen traffic congestion near the carnival axis, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has laid out diversion routes.
