Lagos driver arraigned for allegedly killing pedestrian
Tosin Awosanya, a 38-year-old motorist from Lagos, was taken before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court on Thursday by the police for allegedly running over a pedestrian and killing her.
The defendant is being tried for driving without a licence, reckless driving that results in the death of a pedestrian, and residing at No. 13 Busare St., off AIT Road, Alagbado, Lagos.
Nonetheless, the defendant entered a not-guilty plea to the allegations.
The offences were perpetrated at the Ajala Bus Stop, Abule Egba Road, Lagos, on November 13, 2023, according to the prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, who testified in court.
Gloria Eberechukwu, 55, was a pedestrian when the defendant allegedly drove recklessly and struck her; Akeem claimed that she died instantly.
The prosecutor said that the acts violated Sections 51, 52, and 111 of the Lagos State 2018 Road Traffic Laws.
The defendant was granted bail of N500,000 with two sureties in an equivalent amount by Chief Magistrate Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi.
The case was postponed to February 5th for mention by Osunsanmi.
