Lagos Government's plan to construct ferry terminal: Lekki residents disagree
Lekki Phase 1 residents have voiced opposition to the Lagos government's intentions to build a ferry terminal there.
The authorities have not yet informed them, according to Yomi Idowu, chairman of the Lekki Residents Association (LERA), who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Idowu emphasized how crowded and full of private jetties Lekki Phase 1 was.
He acknowledged that the initiative is admirable but suggested that the site be considered to avoid making the current traffic problems worse.
“It is laudable because it will serve the whole axis including up to Victoria Garden City. But it does not have to be located in Lekki Phase 1 which is already congested,’’ he said.
However, LERA reaffirmed that it was prepared to recommend sites that would be appropriate for the project.
On August 19, Lekki Estate Ferry Terminal Ltd. declared that the work would start in September.
The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation would be the terminal's owner, and it would be located on the Admiralty Way waterfront.
Residents of Lekki, Ajah, Igbo Efon, Ikota, Awoyaya, Lakowe, Sangotedo, and surrounding areas would be served.
