Lagos govt opens 330 screening centres for diabetes, hypertension
The Lagos State Government started the "Know Your Numbers, Control Your Numbers" program to address the health concerns linked with diabetes and hypertension. The campaign offers screening services at 330 authorised sites around the state.
Targeting the rising incidence of these silent but deadly diseases, this health campaign seeks to increase public awareness and promote routine blood pressure and blood sugar checks.
The national "10 Million Project," a program started by the Nigeria Governors' Forum to address the pervasive effects of diabetes and hypertension, includes this campaign. During a news briefing last Friday, Prof. Akin Abayomi, the Commissioner for Health, made the announcement.
At the Lagos State Executive Council meeting today at Lagos House, Alausa-Ikeja, a special screening event was held to mark the launch of the campaign. As part of the inaugural activities, prominent government figures, including Deputy Governor Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, were screened for blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
