Lagos govt. orders closure of Wonderland after guest was electrocuted
The Lagos State Government has ordered the Kiddies area of Wonderland in Energy City, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos, to close and suspend operations.
Wonderland is a place for events designed to provide a joyful and exciting holiday experience.
After a guest was electrocuted at the event location on Monday, December 26th, 2022, the establishment was closed.
In a joint inspection with the Lagos State Task Force team, the director general of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, stated that the intervention has become essential to stop further exposure of visitors, especially children, at the location to avoid accidents that could result in harm and deaths.
Mojola also revealed that despite numerous meetings held at the start of the project after an initial safety inspection exercise carried out on the venue to discuss safety violations found there, the owner of the event venue, Ezekiel Adamu, had refused to implement the Commission's recommended safety measures.
He said that it had become urgent and necessary to close the building until all violations were addressed in order to protect users, particularly youngsters, from further harm and to guarantee the safety of other events scheduled for Lagos residents.
The Director General declared that no person or organization was bigger than the State and that it would constantly assure Lagosians' safety while they celebrated the holiday season.
Mojola issued a warning to Lagos facility operators who are not abiding by the State's Safety regulations for events and asked locals to socialize appropriately.
