Lagos govt seals 12 buildings in Banana Island
In the state's Banana Island region, 12 buildings have been resealed, and two additional unlawful fences have been taken down.
This was revealed on Friday by Gbolahan Oki, general manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).
The failure of the concerned structures' developers to secure planning permits and the removal of official seals, according to Oki, led to the sealing of the affected buildings.
In response to the Governor's instructions, the LASBCA sealed the buildings in coordination with the State Taskforce, the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), and Oki.
According to Oki, the continuous demolition and sealing of buildings in Banana Island and other areas of the State is intended to compel compliance from the building public and ensure that the constructed sector is once again run in a sane manner.
On April 12, construction workers on Banana Island were working in a seven-story structure when it collapsed.
A body was discovered beneath the debris during the rescue effort, and the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, later ordered the destruction of unlawfully constructed buildings in Banana Island.
Sanwo-Olu had also attributed some developers' "reckless" actions that resulted in them receiving unlawful approval from federal government agencies for the collapse of the seven-story structure.
