Lagos govt seals off restaurants, supermarkets for breaking environmental rules
The Lagos State government has sealed off some commercial premises in the state's affluent region for breaking the state's environmental rules.
Tokunbo Wahab, the state's commissioner for environmental and water resources, announced on Sunday via his X handle that the structures had been blocked off following an "extensive inspection".
“After the extensive inspection of Lekki Phase 1 yesterday (Saturday, 30th of September, 2023), I ordered the seal off of Lennox Mall, The Place, Brasas’r Place, Admiralty Mall, undeveloped land, Cmart Supermarket, Freesia Foodies Restaurant, Nectar Beauty Hub and Sailor Lounge, due to various environmental infractions.
The commissioner had been to the Lekki axis on Saturday, when numerous violations brought on by nearby development had been found.
In order to solve problems with clogged drains and mop-up floods that have taken over Lekki's streets and roadways, the visit was made in conjunction with representatives of the Lekki Residents Association (LIRA).
He highlighted that all homes and businesses on Admiralty Way will be sealed off for violating environmental rules by the ministry along with other pertinent entities.
Despite the state government's ongoing road restoration efforts, he said that these commercial buildings' poor drainage system management had negatively impacted the Lekki axis road networks.
