Lagos govt to prosecute managers for reopening closed restaurant
According to the Lagos State Government, two managers of the Kingfisher restaurant in the Lekki neighbourhood of the state would face legal action for violating the seal that the government placed on the establishment.
It is a crime, according to Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, to remove the government's seal from any property that violates state law.
The commissioner issued the warning via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, announcing that anyone discovered to have committed the act in question will face legal action.
“It is a criminal offence to break the government’s seal placed on any property or facility for contravening the law.
“Anyone or group of people found guilty would be prosecuted following the appropriate law,†Wahab wrote.
Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on New Media, revealed on Monday through his verified X handle that the two Kingfisher's employees had been taken into custody late on Sunday during a routine compliance check of sealed properties by Wahab and Tunde Ajayi, the general manager of the Lagos State Environment Protection Agency.
“While on a routine compliance assessment of sealed facilities last night, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, and GM LASEPA, Dr Tunde Ajayi, discovered that Kingfisher, a restaurant at Lekki, had broken the government seals and were running operations at full scale.
“The governor’s monitoring team provided security backup, and two managers were arrested at about 12:30 am with the help of the CSO to the governor.
“They will be charged to court today and face the maximum consequence of their actions.â€
