Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash leaves five people dead, 15 injured
According to reports, at least five people perished in a car accident that happened on Sunday near the Kara Bus Stop segment of the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway.
According to reports, another 15 people were hurt in varied degrees and are currently being treated at an unnamed hospital.
Three vehicles—a truck with the licence plate KRD-12HGS, an SUV with the model number CRV, and an interstate commercial bus—were involved in the collision, which happened in the highway's outbound Lagos lane.
As of the time this report was submitted, the accident's cause was still unknown.
However, Adebayo Taofiq, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority's public relations officer, confirmed the accident and the number of casualties to one of our correspondents over the phone.
He said, “Five persons died in the crash while over 15 persons who were injured have been taken to the hospital.
“We have LASTMA officials on the ground and other emergency responders like the Federal Road Safety Corps handling the situation.
“As of now, the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained; the first thing we will do is rescue the victims before taking the case to the police station.â€
In the meantime, the accident left drivers and passengers stranded for hours as the subsequent traffic gridlock extended into Lagos.
Some drivers were obliged to drive against the flow of traffic as a result of the circumstance, preventing cars from entering Lagos.
