Lagos police detain eight suspected armed robbers
According to the Lagos State Police Command, eight armed robbers who were on its wanted list had been taken into custody.
This was said in a statement released on Saturday in Lagos by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command's spokesman.
According to Hundeyin, following weeks of covert and thorough investigation, the suspects—who belonged to two syndicates—were taken into custody.
According to the spokesman, the criminals were experts at stealing cars at gunpoint and robbing Lagos citizens.
He claimed that while investigators pursued some of the suspects to Iwo in Osun and Ibadan in Oyo State, others were apprehended in Lagos State.
The suspects, according to the statement, ranged in age from 22 to 32.
According to Hundeyin, on December 9, 2023, in the Iju Ishaga area of Lagos State, a police officer was killed and his firearm was stolen by the accused.
He claimed that during the initial round of arrests, the firearm was found.
“Other items recovered from the suspects included one pump-action rifle, five locally-made pistols, 30 live cartridges and charms,” he said.
