Lagos police to take disciplinary action against officer caught on camera shooting into the air
The individual shown in a popular video firing an AK-47 weapon at Ladipo Market has been identified by the Lagos State Police Command as Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi, a member of a MOPOL squadron in Lagos.
The officer would face disciplinary action right now for his unprofessional, unethical, and risky behaviour, according to Lagos State Command Commissioner of Police CP Idowu Owohunwa.
On Wednesday, SP Benjamin Hundeyin verified the situation.
The public was reassured by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer that the Lagos Command would not put up with any sort of improper conduct from its officers and men and that any found guilty would be dealt with in accordance with established procedures.
Kwanchi ran into trouble after he was photographed shooting into the air to mark the reopening of Ladipo market.
The police could be seen firing into the air while onlookers applauded him in the popular footage that was uploaded on X on Tuesday.
In September, the market was "sealed for a number of environmental offences, including careless waste disposal, unhygienic premises, and non-payment of waste bills, among others."
After they complied with the state's environmental rules, it was reopened two weeks later.
