Lagos tanker accident leaves one dead
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, a toppled tanker at the Otto Wharf Bus Stop, Apapa - Oshodi Expressway, Mile 2, Lagos, claimed the lives of one person and injured another.
The incident was confirmed by the service's director, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.
According to Adeseye, the incident involved a diesel tanker carrying 45,000 liters that was traveling from the Apapa region to Oshodi at around 4:02 a.m. on Sunday.
She claimed that while attempting to maneuver through barricades set up by unidentified toll collectors on Apapa road, a tanker in motion apparently fell on a stationary towing vehicle.
“The resultant accident was mitigated by the Sari-Iganmu fire crew of the service. However, two male adults were involved. One was rescued alive with varying degrees of injury to the nearest hospital and the other recovered dead,†she said.
The tanker and towing van, according to the director, have been taken off the road.
