Lagos teacher arrested for assaulting three-year-old pupil during lesson
Nigerians have vented their fury when a video emerged showing Stella Nwadigo, a teacher at Christ-Mitots International School in Isawo, Ikorodu, Lagos State, physically abusing a three-year-old kid, Abayomi Michael, for not writing as taught.
Nigerians from all walks of life are demanding an investigation into the school, even though Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, confirmed the teacher's arrest in a phone interview with our correspondent on Wednesday.
The disturbing incident had already been "forwarded to the appropriate quarters" and that the matter had been escalated to the relevant departments for additional investigation.
A brief viral video sighted by PUNCH Metro on Wednesday showed Nwadigo mistreating the little child during a writing class. In the film, Nwadigo was heard directing Abayomi on how to write the number six while continuously slapping him.
Nigerians were incensed by the video, denouncing the teacher's actions and calling for their prosecution. Well-known social commentator VeryDarkMan was one of the outspoken critics, threatening to stage a demonstration at the school if the teacher was not held responsible.
