LASBCA demolishes shops in Lagos community
Residents of Laurel School Cross, inside the Bungalow Estate axis, in the Jakande Estate neighbourhood of Isolo Local Government Area, Lagos State, are calculating their losses following the demolition of rows of lockup stores in their neighbourhood by task force personnel from the Lagos State Building Control Agency.
Many of the affected locals, the majority of whom are small-time traders, described how their tragic ordeal began early on Wednesday afternoon when scores of LASBCA task force members and armed security agents showed up with chainsaws and sledgehammers to destroy businesses and public areas.
Many of the vendors at the scene on Thursday morning appeared terrified as they worked to extract some of their items and other treasures from the rubble.
Some of the vendors claimed that the government had not given them any prior notice of the impending demolition.
