LASTMA arrests reckless driver for killing pedestrian in Lagos

After killing an innocent bystander in Ogba, Lagos, early yesterday, agents of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) arrested a careless private vehicle driver.

In a press release issued yesterday, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of LASTMA's Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, revealed that the fatal accident occurred near College Road, Ogba, Ikeja, near Yaya Abatan.

Adebayo stated that the initial inquiry showed that the driver of an unregistered white "Mercedes Benz" (CLA 250) car overshot and lost control, striking an innocent bystander who died instantly.

“LASTMA personnel apprehended the driver while running away after he saw that the victim had died as a result of the accident.”

The LASTMA's rescue team's commander, Agege) Iju-Ifako axis, Akinola Ganiyu, verified that the careless driver was later turned over to police from Area 'G' Police Command, who were also present at the accident scene for additional investigations.

Ganiyu added: “While the vehicle was immediately cleared off the road for free vehicular movement, members of the deceased family later came and removed the corpse”

Bolaji Oreagba, General Manager of LASTMA, issued a warning to drivers, especially during these "Ember Months," to cease speeding and to heed traffic signs.
