After being shot by suspected armed robbers who followed a Point of Sale operator to her home in Lagos State's Igando neighborhood, an unidentified Lagos State University graduate is fighting for his life. 

The incident happened on Sunday on Kayode Onafuye Street in the community's Alhaji Ede neighborhood. The bandits, who arrived on two motorbikes, assaulted a nearby cottage in pursuit of the PoS operator, according to eyewitnesses our correspondent spoke with. 

However, after failing to break inside the premises, the four-man gang was unable to find their objective. According to an eyewitness who went by the name of Bode, the development infuriated the thieves, who then opened fire randomly, striking the graduate with one of the bullets.

The resident said, “The robbers came on two motorcycles and were about four in number. They had traced the PoS operator to her house. When they first got there, they went to her shop, which is very close to the building.

“When they discovered that she was not there, they went straight to the house and started calling out the PoS operator while attempting to enter the building. It was at that moment that the occupants shut the entrance door, preventing them from gaining access. Out of frustration, they started shooting indiscriminately.”

The graduate was walking down the street when one of the bullets hit him, according to another local who owns a store near the scene but wished to remain anonymous for security reasons.

The resident stated that most individuals in the vicinity were oblivious of what was happening until the sound of gunshots rang out.

“He unknowingly walked into the scene before he realised what was happening. That was exactly when the robbers started shooting after being unable to locate their target.

“It was after they fled that people quickly rushed to rescue the young man and took him to a nearby General Hospital. One of those who rescued him said he had just graduated from LASU and was preparing for the National Youth Service Corps programme for fresh Nigerian graduates.”
