Lekki Deep Seaport's first ship takesoff
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has congratulated the Federal Ministry of Transport and the Nigerian Port Authority on the successful berthing of the first ship in the port of Lekki Deep Sea.
The vessel, ZHEN HUA 28, provided three Ship to Shores and 10 Rubber Tire Gantries cranes that will assist in the evacuation of cargo from ships to shore.
The President expressed his feelings in a statement by his spokeswoman Femi Adesina on Saturday in Abuja.
He also congratulated all those involved in the maritime sector on this achievement.
Buhari reminded that his approval of four new seaports in the country, including Lekki Deep Sea Port, depended on economic growth.
According to him, the decision also aimed to create massive job opportunities, foreign investment inflows and trade facilitation.
He commended the staff and management in the country's maritime sector who are working around the clock to make the port of Lekki Deep Sea operational before the end of the year a reality.
The President assured them of his commitment to maintaining investment in these new assets.
According to Buhari, the country's maritime and aquatic resources are vital to Nigerians' livelihoods and the government will spare no effort to successfully exploit the sector's potential.
