Man arraigned for defrauding sex worker of N120,000 in Ondo

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps' Ondo State Command on Thursday charged Samuel Oni with defrauding a sex worker named Blessing Olaitan of N120,000 before an Akure magistrate's court.

Olaitan testified in court that she was a professional sex worker and that the defendant reportedly paid her N80,000 after having sex with her with the promise of transferring the money to her account together with her N15,000 professional fee.

She did, however, add that she eventually found out that the warning came from Oni, who had been charged with two counts of stealing and conspiracy and had appeared in court.

The charge read, “That you, Samuel Oni, and others at large on March 2023, at Alagbaka, Akure, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did conspire with yourselves to commit a criminal offence to with (sic) stole a sum of one hundred and twenty thousand naira of Mrs Blessing Olaitan, thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Law Cap 37, Vol 1 Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

“That you, Samuel Oni, on March 1, 2023, at Alagbaka, Akure, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did steal a sum of one hundred and twenty thousand naira of Mrs Blessing Olaitan, thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Law Cap 37, Vol 1 Laws of Ondo State, 2006.”

Oni, however, entered a not-guilty plea to the accusations.

The NSCDC prosecutor, Mr. David Ebriku, opposed the bail application and urged the court to remand the defendant. The defense attorney, Barrister E.O. Nifemi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail.

In his decision, Magistrate Tope Aladejana granted the defendant bail in the amount of N200,000 with two sureties in the same amount and continued the case for hearing on April 17, 2023.
