Man arrested for pointing gun at neighbour

SWAT was sent to south Austin on Thursday morning after police said a man had pointed an assault-style weapon at his neighbour after a fight. The suspect was taken into custody.

At 9:33 a.m., the Austin Police Department announced on social media that SWAT and patrol officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Amur Drive in response to what they described as a "urgent gun call."

The initial report of a man wearing body armour wielding an assault-style rifle and perhaps pointing it at someone came in at around 8:10 a.m., according to police. According to the police, there seems to have been a disagreement between neighbours. At approximately 8:30 a.m., the man was seen by officers in his backyard before returning inside his house. SWAT arrived at that point, according to the cops.

In order to warn neighbours to take cover, police enforced a lockdown on a neighbouring elementary school and made a reverse 911 call.

When SWAT arrived at the man's house at approximately 10:08 a.m., according to the police, he came outdoors and raised his hands. The individual was then taken into jail by officers. According to the police, the man may still be charged with more felonies in addition to the felony of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Neighbours may continue to see police in the vicinity for some time as detectives are currently attempting to secure a search warrant to enter the man's residence. Nonetheless, the order to shelter in place has been revoked, and the local school has resumed regular activities.

No shots were fired, according to the police, and no one was hurt.
