Man assaults wife after she served him divorce papers
Laban Mukombelo, 53, of Mkushi, Zambia, is said to have taken to his heels after cutting Eunice Kabamba, his wife, with an axe when she tried to serve him with divorce papers.
As a result, Laban is the target of a manhunt by police in Central Province for the horrific attack on his 50-year-old wife.
According to Eunice's allegation to the police on February 17, at about 14:00 hours on February 15, the day following Valentine's Day, Laban attacked her.
She stated in her testimony that Laban, furious about the legal process, reportedly beat his wife severely with an axe and his fists after filing for divorce because of continuous marital problems.
She also had damage to three teeth and scrapes to her cheek, eye, and skull.
Zambia Observer claims that alarmed neighbours stepped in and took Eunice to the hospital, where she was treated and released the next day.
Danny Mwale, a deputy police spokesperson, verified the event.
“Investigations revealed that following marital disputes which the couple has been having for some time, Eunice decided to sue Laban for divorce in the local court but upon being served with the summons, Laban got angry, picked up an axe and started hitting his wife on her head, causing her to suffer serious injuries,” added Mwale.
