Man commits suicide after losing N2.5m to betting
Onoh Chukwuma, a Facebook user, is said to have killed himself on Tuesday by swallowing insecticide after losing N2.5 million to gambling.
Onoh wrote a message on his Facebook wall stating that this was his last day on Earth and that he would be meeting his maker.
He had taken the insecticide earlier, without anyone reading the post knowing, and that was why he made the announcement.
In his post, he thanked some individuals, saying, “Today is my last day on earth! I’m going to meet my maker. Thank you Chima Anyaso, Ikukuoma Abia, Kelvin Jombo Onumah, Ekwueme Ohafia, and my friends. My spirit is with you all.â€
Friends heard of Onoh's distress and hurried him to Madonna Hospital in Umuahia.
But despite the medical professionals' best efforts, he did not make it through.
Onoh was said to have lost N2.5 million in bets and was unable to handle the pressure and embarrassment from the people he had borrowed money from.
A Facebook user questioned the deceased’s decision, mentioning that Onoh had N1m and borrowed N1.5m to play a bet that failed, leading to his tragic end due to shame from debtors.
