Man dies of electrocution when trying to steal armoured cable in Rivers
An anonymous young man attempted to steal an armoured cable from a transformer in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State's Mgboaba/NTA area, but tragically, he was electrocuted in the process.
The man reportedly went for the surgery on Thursday at around three in the morning when there was a blackout in the area near a well-known new generation church, but he became imprisoned when the electricity was restored.
The individual was badly burned and had blackened skin, according to an eyewitness who talked with our correspondent under condition of anonymity.
The witness also reported that as soon as the power was put back on, there was a tremendous noise at the transformer.
He said, “It was around 3am when the transformer sparked with a loud sound. We thought it was the normal sound we hear sometimes.
“But in the morning, when I was going to work, we heard that somebody who went to cut an armoured cable died inside the transformer.
“So, I and some people went there and saw the dead body. All his body was burnt like charcoal.”
An additional eyewitness identified himself as Chika and stated that the individual was well-known in the community. "He used to sell water to people around this area," he said.
