Many are feared dead as unknown gunmen attack Owo catholic church
On Sunday morning, gunmen attacked the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, the headquarters of Owo County, Ondo State, killing many worshipers.
An unconfirmed number of bodies had been removed from the church and many of the injured were taken to the Federal Medical Center, FMC, in Owo. According to eyewitnesses, gunmen stormed the church during the service and opened fire on the congregation. One of the eyewitnesses, who craved anonymity, stated that the worshipers were surprised when the attackers arrived. He added that the death toll could be higher because some participants who were taken to the hospital had given up the ghost. On condition of anonymity, a nurse in Owo revealed that the hospital's emergency room did not have enough medical professionals on duty to attend to the injured victims, while some of the victims have been transferred to private hospitals
