MASSOB tells Gov Okowa to stay away from Igbo territory
The Peoples Democratic Party's vice presidential candidate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, has been cautioned by the Movement for Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) against claiming to be an Igbo native.
The Delta State Governor, according to a statement released on Tuesday by MASSOB's leader Uchenna Madu, has repeatedly denied being an Igbo.
According to MASSOB, Okowa's recent declaration that he is Igbo was motivated by his desire to win support for Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, whom he may be substituting.
The statement reads, “Because of Okowaâ€s nomination as Atikuâ€s running mate, he now feels that he is representing the position of Ndigbo.
Okowa, according to Madu, refused to "accept his Igboness" during his seven years as governor of Delta State, stating that he "always denied that he is an Igbo because of his commitment to Fulani dominated federal government."
"MASSOB wants Governor Okowa to remember that Ndigbo are wiser now. Okowa does not speak for Ndigbo. Ndigbo's political interest is no longer with the PDP.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State is advised by MASSOB to avoid Igbo territory because he is not welcome. What Governor Okowa blatantly rejected, he cannot accept. Ndigbos are not foolsâ€.
