Megan Thee Stallion testifies against Tory Lanez
In the trial of Tory Lanez, a singer and former friend who is accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion at a party in Los Angeles, Megan Thee Stallion gave an emotional opening statement on Tuesday.
The rapper from Texas, whose real name is Megan Pete, gave the most detailed account of the incident that precipitated the shooting in 2020 to date. She spoke of the attack's effects, including the continual pain in her feet, and called having to relive the act in front of the public "torture."
“I don’t wanna be on this Earth,†Pete said at one point during a daylong testimony. “I wish he woulda shot and killed me if I knew I would go through this torture.â€
When Kathy Ta, the Los Angeles county prosecutor, questioned Pete about the early-morning shooting on July 12, 2020, she would occasionally become overcome with emotion and sneeze gently.
Ta played the body camera film of Pete being dragged from a large black car and staggering to the sidewalk while bleeding from the feet to Pete and the courtroom. Pete wiped her nose as she relived the video of the rapper sobbing a lot in the back of an ambulance.
Pete, a 27-year-old witness, exclaimed on the witness stand, "I can't believe I have to come in here and do this."
If Tory Lanez, whose true name is Daystar Peterson, is found guilty on all three of the charges against him, he could spend more than 22 years in prison. The 30-year-old Peterson has defended his innocence and charged Pete with lying.
Peterson's lawyer, George Mgdesyan, vehemently objected to the prosecutor's questions throughout Pete's account of the events leading up to the automobile journey that resulted in the shooting.
Pete claimed that the incident happened after a party at Kylie Jenner's home. Peterson told Kelsey Harris, a longtime friend of Pete's, that he and Pete had been intimate, which sparked a fight. Harris is also scheduled to provide testimony at the trial.
Peterson turned around in the car at some point and told Pete to stop telling Harris lies about their relationship. On Tuesday, Pete claimed that after both of their mothers passed away, she and Peterson had gotten close and occasionally had sex. Pete said that Harris, who had a "crush" on Peterson, was unaware of the musicians' relationship up until the verbal altercation.
As tensions rose, Peterson later referred to both women as "bitches and hos," according to Pete's testimony. The two also exchanged insults about each other's musical endeavours.
She had begged to be let out of the car close to the Hollywood Hills residence she was staying at, but as she was leaving, Peterson yelled "dance, bitch," and as she turned to face him, he was partially hanging out of the car with a gun pointing at her, according to Pete, who testified in court. Then he started to fire.
Police pulled over the car that Pete, Harris, Peterson, and his security guard were riding in shortly after it had left the scene.
Pete claimed that Peterson had asked her and Harris not to notify the police that she had been shot by him because he had previously run into difficulty with the law and didn't want to do it again. Pete said that Peterson had given the two ex-friends $1 million in exchange for their silence.
