MNJTF troops take down 10 terrorists in Cameroon
Ten terrorists were neutralised when troops from Sector 1 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) repulsed a coordinated attack on a military installation in Darak, Cameroon, by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
This was revealed in a statement released on Thursday by Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer, MNJTF Headquarters, N’Djamena, Chad.
According to Osoba, the terrorists attacked the Darak military post from several directions before daybreak on this particular December 18.
“In a fierce gun battle, troops swiftly engaged the terrorists, eliminating six and forcing the others to flee with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
“Unfortunately, five soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter and are currently responding to medical treatment,” he said.
Osoba claims that a follow-up operation was conducted in Mazogo, a community in the region situated between Zamba and Djibirilli, to ambush the escaping terrorists along their route of regrouping.
“The troops eliminated four terrorists as they approached the ambush zone and recovered assorted food items belonging to the terrorists.
“The total number of terrorists neutralized in the operation now stands at 10,” he said.
