Mountain biker says Apple Watch saved his life
Earlier this year, the 23-year-old was on his routine mountain bike ride in the Californian Spring Valley when he had a tragic accident.
He claimed that when his bicycle struck a steep incline, he flew over the handlebars and fell to the ground headfirst. He immediately examined his wounds and noticed that, despite not experiencing any pain, he was unable to move his neck downward.
McConnaughey realized he needed immediate medical help, but his phone was sadly in his rucksack at the time. He became instantly aware that he was wearing an Apple Watch as his brain switched to survival mode.
He promptly called his close friend Peter, who was familiar with the routes he rode and could find him, using the "Hey Siri" speech command on his Apple Watch.
Using the same "Hey Siri" voice command, he then contacted 911 through the Apple Watch for assistance. His friend also dialed 911 in the meantime. Additionally, McConnaughey called his girlfriend to say goodbye and left a voicemail. Later, the voicemail gained popularity on TikTok.
