MTN set to provide 365,000 phones through financing scheme
By 2023, MTN Nigeria Communication Plc expects to provide smartphones to 365,000 Nigerians.
The telecommunications company plans to accomplish this through its relationship with Intelligra for device financing. People will have the chance to purchase cellphones with the "a buy now, pay later" option thanks to this cooperation.
Only 44% of Nigerians, according to the Alliance for Affordable Internet, have access to cellphones. Smartphones provide users with a doorway into the digital world, but due to their exorbitant cost, many Nigerians cannot afford them.
Speaking at the launch event, the Chief Marketing Officer, of MTN Nigeria, Adia Sowho, said, “Smartphones have become the computer for many Nigerians today.
“Unfortunately, the high costs of these devices have made them out of reach for many. Factors such as forex fluctuation, chipset shortages, and inflation are continuously driving up the cost of phones.â€
She said that while MTN and Intelligra had been collaborating for some time, their partnership only became official in January 2022. Since then, it has developed into 200 locations where customers can walk in and purchase smartphones with no initial deposit and pay for them over time with airtime.
She added, “Through this initiative, we have financed over 20,000 devices. With the launch of 5G, MTN is deepening its partnership with Intelligra to drive 5G mobile device growth.
“By 2023, we want to achieve 1,000 units of devices daily transactions even as we onboard more outlets, especially in the North.â€
According to Sowho, the agreement will allow users to sign up for any MTN bundle plan for as little as N7,000/month, walk away with the smartphone of their choosing, and pay within six to twelve months.
Additionally, they can choose bundle plans that include up to 250 voice minutes per month, 100 GB of monthly internet, and a once-off free screen.
