N37.1 billion fraud: EFCC details former minister for humanitarian affairs Sadiya Umar-Farouq
Sadiya Umar-Farouq, a former minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management, and social development, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pending interrogation regarding claims of corruption in the management of N37.1 billion in social intervention funds during her ministry.
In response to a previous invitation regarding the ongoing case, Mrs. Umar-Farouq showed up at the commission's Abuja headquarters on Monday morning.
At 10:17 a.m. on Monday, she announced on her X handle that she had just arrived at the commission's office.
“I have, at my behest, arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to honour the invitation by the anti-graft agency to offer clarifications in respect of some issues that the commission is investigating,†she tweeted.
The extraordinary amount of N37.1 billion (N37,170,855,753.44) that officials of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development—then headed by Mrs. Umar-Farouk as the minister—are alleged to have laundered is the focus of the EFCC's ongoing investigation.
