NAFDAC warns Nigerians against circulation of fake Colgate toothpaste
The public has been alerted to the spread of unlicensed and possibly fake Colgate toothpaste by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
The agency claimed its Post-Marketing Surveillance Directorate received a complaint over the items' distribution in Kaduna State, sparking an inquiry, in a notice released on Sunday through its X account.
According to NAFDAC, two suspected counterfeit goods bearing the names "Coglaet ActivGel 100g" and "Coglaet Herbal 100g" were found when its representatives visited the store where the goods were being marketed.
“The shop owner informed the team that the products were purchased from a door-to-door sales representative; however, no proof of purchase was provided.
“These products have not met the required regulatory standards for registration and quality assurance, thereby posing a potential risk to public health and safety,” the agency said.
Before making a purchase or using a product, distributors, retailers, and customers should be cautious and confirm its legitimacy and physical state.
Customers were asked to phone 0800-162-3322, send an email to sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng, or report suspected incidents of subpar or counterfeit goods to the closest NAFDAC office.
