Naira Marley to be issued reproduction warrant
Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, is going to be issued a reproduction warrant, ordered by a Federal High Court in Lagos so that he can appear in court for the alleged fraud case that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, has brought against him.
When the case was mentioned and the defendant was not in court on Friday, the presiding Judge, Nicholas Oweibo, gave the order in response to the argument of the musician's attorney, Barrister Olalekan Ojo SAN.
Naira Marley was unable to appear in court, according to Ojo, since he was held after voluntarily turning himself in to police for questioning in relation to the death of Ifeoluwa Aloba, a.k.a. Mobadh, another late singer.
The defence attorney then requested that the judge issue a reproduction warrant so that the defendant might appear in court on the following postponed day.
The EFCC's lawyer, Bilikisu Buhari, verified that the defendant was in police custody and did not object to the defence lawyer's plea.
As a result, Justice Oweibo directed that a reproduction warrant be issued for Naira Marley to be presented in court if he is still in police custody on October 30, 2023, the new date for the trial.
In court, Naira Marley is being tried for offences relating to cybercrime.
