Nasarawa police arrest 38 over Supreme Court protest
38 individuals were detained by Nasarawa State police yesterday in relation to the demonstration that followed the Supreme Court decision.
According to state police commissioner Mr. Umar Shehu Nadada, who made this announcement in Lafia, 29 motorcycles were also found among those detained.
According to Mr. Nadada, those who were arrested broke the peace agreement that the leaders of the two main political parties involved, the APC and the PDP, signed to prevent any action that might disturb the peace both during and after the verdict.
He stated that the suspects were being questioned at the state's CID office in order to uncover the identity of their sponsors, indefinitely.
“Those suspects arrested are currently with the command’s CID helping the police with useful information to enable us identify their sponsors.
“As soon as the command identifies those behind the crisis, they will be arrested and prosecuted,†he said.
Following the ruling, protesters had closed down the Lafia-Jos route near the state PDP secretariat, preventing cars from entering the region.
The commissioner issued a warning, saying that anyone attempting to disturb the calm in the state will face harsh consequences from the command.
