NASU, SSANU suspend strike, resume on Wednesday
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions, NASU, announced on Saturday that the ongoing strike would be called off on Wednesday.
This was said in a statement made accessible to newsmen in Abuja by Peters Adeyemi, the JAC's spokesperson.
Recall that to drive home their demands, the unions went on strike starting on March 27.
The decision to call off the strike, according to Adeyemi, was reached after talks between the unions and a government delegation headed by Malam Adamu Adamu, the minister of education.
He said, “When we presented the offers that the government made to our members, they thought that since the majority of the issues that are in contention have been substantially addressed by the government, the strike is hereby suspended effective on August 24.â€
Additionally, the SSANU stated that the meeting between the unions and the government was successful in a statement issued under the president's signature, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim.
"In view of the aforesaid, NASU and SSANU members are hereby directed to resume work on Wednesday, August 24, "the two-month window is in the form of a ceasefire and doesn't reflect a closing on the industrial action," he stated.
