NDLEA apprehends wanted drug baron after two years on the run
Two years after slipping the anti-drug agency's notice, Alhaji Suleiman Ganiu Aremu, also known as Barryshine, was apprehended by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agents.
The Agency placed Suleiman, the Managing Director/CEO of Barryshine Suleiman Nigeria Ltd., on a watchlist due to his suspected involvement in four unsuccessful efforts between 2022 and 2024 to export cocaine to Saudi Arabia and Qatar via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA Ikeja, Lagos.
His identity initially surfaced on November 13, 2022, when Alhaja Ajisegiri Kehinde Sidika, a female passenger on a Qatar Airlines aircraft to Saudi Arabia, was detained at the MMIA for possessing 400 grammes of cocaine that had been hidden within women's shoes.
Subsequent investigation showed that Suleiman's brother, Abdullahi Olarenwaju Ramon, was the one who employed the detained drug courier. Additional information revealed that Alhaji Suleiman Ganiu Aremu procured the suspect's airline tickets and other travel-related expenses.
