NDLEA arrests 85 drug suspects in Kano
On Monday, NDLEA detained 85 narcotics suspects at a Kano nightclub.
The arrests were made in response to reports regarding drug-related activities at the club, according to a statement released on Tuesday in Kano by Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, Commander of the NDLEA in the state.
Members of the club's host community, he claimed, complained that the establishment had been transformed into a drug den.
He stated that 30 female and 55 male suspects had been detained, and that drugs believed to be Indian hemp had been found on them.
Idris-Ahmad added that all of the suspects who tried to elude capture by hiding within deep freezers or climbing over the fence were caught.
“The arrest of the suspects is a significant victory for the NDLEA in its fight against drug-related activities in Kano State.
“Drug abuse and trafficking have serious negative consequences, not only on individuals but also on the society,’’ he said.
He said the suspects were going through interrogation to identify the drug dealers among them before their arraignment.
“The drug users will be referred to the appropriate unit for counselling,’’ he said.
There would be nowhere for drug sellers to hide in the state, Idris-Ahmad urged the public, therefore they should report any drug-related activity to the agency.
Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the NDLEA's spokesperson in Kano State, signed the statement.
