NDLEA nabs church founder, student over Dubai-bound drugs
High Priest Nnodu Azuka Kenrick, the founder and general overseer of the Seraphic and Sabbath Assembly in Lagos, has been taken into custody by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Udezuka Udoka, a student at Emmanuel College of Theology in Ibadan, and Oyoyo Mary Obasi, a freight agent, were also detained, according to the agency's spokesperson Femi Babafemi, who made the announcement on Sunday.
The suspects tried to ship skunk and methamphetamine to Dubai through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport's NAHCO export facility in Lagos.
Following the arrest of Obasi and Udoka, Nnodu was taken into custody on February 11 at his church, which is located at No. 1 Sabbath Close in Ijesha, Lagos.
Four 25-liter kegs of palm oil, disguised as 283 parcels of skunk weighing 14.90 kilos, and 204 grams of meth were found by the NDLEA on their way to the United Arab Emirates, or UAE.
Obasi named the people who handed her the consignments as the GO of her new church and his now-at-large son, Chisom Obi.
She admitted to being forced to provide a chicken sacrifice and a secrecy pledge in the church while Priest Nnodu prayed for the transaction's success.
The clergyman and his son, who knew she was aware of their secrets, allegedly used threats to pressure Obasi into accepting the position.
According to the suspect, Nnodu always referred to meth and cannabis as "Ice" and "Bible," respectively, in their phone conversations.
Udezuka admitted in his confession that he had to play the part because he needed the money for his schooling and that he was paid N2 million for it.
Nnamani Monday Innocent, a Dubai returnee who attempted to smuggle a shipment of skunk and tramadol 225mg to the UAE, was caught in another attempt on February 7.
Innocent was detained at the Ojo-area Trade Fair complex, where he had traveled with his friend Nwanana Emmanuel Ikechukwu to prepare the shipment for departure.
Agents from the NDLEA stationed at the Lagos airport's SAHCO export shed also stopped a shipment headed for London, United Kingdom.
1.10 kilograms of meth were hidden by using food products packaged in a crate. Agholor Emmanuel, the freight agent who tendered the shipment for export, is currently in jail.
