NDLEA recovers illicit drugs at secret meth laboratory in Lagos

In Ikeja, Lagos, agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency discovered a covert facility producing the dangerous drug methamphetamine.

The anti-narcotics agency's spokeswoman, Femi Babafemi, announced the news in a statement on Sunday.

The medication was found wrapped in sachets, along with a number of the precursor chemicals used in its manufacture, according to Babafemi.

He continued by saying that on June 6, anti-narcotics officials stormed the covert laboratory at No. 4, Bode Oluwo Street, Mende, Maryland in Ikeja after credible intelligence and surveillance revealed that illegal drug manufacture was taking place there.

Babafemi said, “At the end of the search, one kilogramme of already produced and packaged methamphetamine, quantities of precursor chemicals were recovered.

“Other items used for the production of the deadly drug were recovered from the house while efforts are on to apprehend the fleeing owner of the house,”

He added that on June 5, agents of the organization detained Wasiu Saliu and Afolabi Banjo, two suspects, in the Oyingbo neighbourhood of Lagos with 247 kilograms of skunk.

Tijani Damilola, a different suspect, was apprehended in Isheri together with 12.5 litres of skuchies and 98 kg of cannabis sativa that belonged to a suspect who was running away.

Babafemi stated that Adebowale Babatunde, who was arrested on June 8 in Mushin, had 12.5kg of the same material in his possession.
