NDLEA seizes cannabis, codeine in Ogun
At several drug joints throughout the state, agents from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency's Ogun State Command recovered 222.42kg of cannabis, often known as marijuana.
The agents also raided the drug dens in Abeokuta, the state capital, and confiscated 40 bottles of codeine totalling 0.4 litres.
Ibiba Odili, the command's commander for narcotics, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Odili claimed the agents raided many drug dens, including Mayas in Lafenwa, Odo-Eran in Obantoko, and Randa, all in Abeokuta, and found the drugs there.
She continued by saying that from one of the joints, the agents found a rifle built in the area.
The statement read, “The gallant joint operatives seized a jaw-dropping 222.42Kg of cannabis sativa, also known as marijuana, in one fell swoop.
“This will deal a significant blow to drug traffickers, interrupt their supply chains and destabilise their illicit operations.
“In addition to the cannabis seizure, the joint forces discovered 40 bottles of codeine, weighing a total of 0.4 litres, highlighting the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs.
“The operatives also seized a locally-made gun during the operation.â€
Odili claimed that the fourth phase of the NDLEA's mopping-up and counter-narcotic intelligence operations against the illegal supply and abuse of drugs in Abeokuta had been launched in cooperation with members of the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army and the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
In order to create a secure and drug-free atmosphere, she promised that measures would be undertaken to deconstruct the drug trafficking network and interrupt the supply of chains of illegal substances.
